In a heartbreaking turn of events, the IPL 2025 victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were marred by a tragic stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The incident claimed the lives of 11 people and left 33 others injured, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a historic moment for the franchise and its fans.
RCB veteran Virat Kohli expressed deep sorrow over the incident. Taking to Instagram, he reshared the team’s official statement and wrote:
“At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted.”
The stampede occurred as a massive crowd gathered to celebrate RCB’s long-awaited IPL title win. Eyewitnesses reported overcrowding and lack of adequate crowd control as the primary causes of the chaos. Due to the severity of the situation, the public celebration was cut short. Only team captain Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli addressed the fans briefly before unveiling the trophy.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and questions have been raised regarding crowd management and police preparedness.
