A software developer profiled by Business Insider says AI now generates most of his code, changing his role from primarily writing code to reviewing, directing, debugging, and validating AI-generated work.

Reports published Saturday highlighted a sharp rise in technology-sector layoffs, with AI and restructuring frequently cited among the drivers. One report estimates 163,427 global tech layoffs in 2026 so far.

Important: This doesn't mean technology jobs are disappearing across the board. PwC's 2026 AI Jobs Barometer found AI-specialist hiring grew eight times faster than overall employment hiring in 2025.
