‘Metro… In Dino’ Box Office Collection Day 1

Anurag Basu’s film earns ?3.35 crore on opening day, boosted by metro audiences

Anurag Basu’s much-anticipated film Metro… In Dino, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Ali Fazal, opened in cinemas on Friday, July 4, 2025. The film earned a respectable ?3.35 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.

Evening shows drive growth

The film began with modest footfalls in the morning and afternoon shows, but picked up strongly in the evening and night slots. On Day 1, it recorded an overall occupancy of 17.99%, with night shows peaking at 31.09%, and evening shows contributing significantly.

Metro cities respond well

The slice-of-life drama resonated most with urban audiences, particularly in Mumbai, NCR, Pune, and Bengaluru.

  • Mumbai & NCR saw occupancies over 19%.

  • Pune did slightly better at 20%.

  • Bengaluru led the pack with 36% average occupancy, especially in evening and night shows.

Playing on over 1,200 screens nationwide, the film drew its main audience from multiplexes in Tier-1 cities. The music, composed by Pritam, has also helped drive interest, with the title track trending online.

What’s next?

While the Day 1 collection is solid for its genre — a non-action, dialogue-driven ensemble drama — the weekend growth will be crucial to its success. With positive word-of-mouth and little competition this week, Metro… In Dino has a good chance to build on its start.

ETimes review:

"Despite being largely pleasant, some tracks feel uneven and overstretched. After an engaging build-up, the second half could have dug deeper, especially in the Konkona-Neena Gupta segment. Still, the film, elevated by fine performances, fills the scarcity of love stories in Bollywood. A breezy, intimate watch tailor-made for a rainy day."
