3,000 FASTag Annual Pass Announced by Nitin Gadkari: Launch Date, Pricing, Eligibility, Activation Details

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a major relief for daily highway commuters across India. A new FASTag-based annual pass priced at ?3,000 will be launched from August 15, 2025, aimed at reducing toll expenses and enhancing the travel experience on National Highways.

This new scheme is expected to cut down the average toll cost from around ?10,000 per year to just ?3,000, offering significant savings and a hassle-free driving experience.

Launch Date and Pricing

The FASTag Annual Pass will be available for activation from August 15, 2025, and will cost ?3,000 per vehicle per year. It includes up to 200 toll plaza crossings on National Highways within 12 months from the date of activation.

Eligibility Criteria

Only non-commercial private vehicles are eligible for the ?3,000 FASTag pass. This includes:

  • Cars

  • Jeeps

  • Vans

The scheme is not applicable for freight or commercial vehicles such as trucks or buses.

Key Features of the FASTag Annual Pass

  • Cost: ?3,000 annually

  • Coverage: 200 National Highway toll plaza trips

  • Validity: 1 year or 200 trips, whichever comes first

  • Activation: No new FASTag required; existing FASTag can be used

  • Application: Optional (not mandatory for all users)

  • Savings: Up to ?7,000 annually for frequent users

  • Trip calculation: Each toll booth crossing = 1 trip; round trip = 2 trips

  • Special cases: Closed toll roads (like Delhi-Mumbai Expressway) count as one trip per entry-exit pair

How to Activate the Annual FASTag

The annual pass will be activated through the existing FASTag of the vehicle. Key conditions for activation include:

  • FASTag must be properly affixed and linked to the vehicle’s registration

  • It should not be blacklisted

  • Activation and renewal will be made available via:

    • Rajmarg Yatra App

    • NHAI official website

    • MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) website

Where Is the Pass Valid?

The pass is valid only at toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways.

On state highways or tolls managed by local authorities, standard toll rates will continue to apply, and the annual pass will not be valid.

Can You Buy It Again Within the Same Year?

Yes. If you exhaust the 200-trip limit before 12 months, you can purchase a new annual pass again, even if a year hasn’t passed since your last purchase.

Is It Mandatory?

No. The annual pass is optional. Vehicle owners may continue using their FASTag wallet and pay tolls as per existing rates if they prefer not to opt for this annual plan.
