India vs Bangladesh, T20 World Cup 2024 Warm-Up Hi

In a development that has shocked cricket fans, Virat Kohli is reportedly considering retirement from Test cricket, the format he once called the “soul of the game.” With 123 Tests under his belt, including 68 as captain, Kohli's potential exit could mark the end of an era in Indian cricket.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now taking urgent steps to convince Kohli to reconsider, as it prepares to announce the new Test captain ahead of the England series.
Sources close to the Indian camp indicate that Kohli (36) may be mentally and physically fatigued, having carried the responsibility of Indian cricket for more than a decade. His Test average, once over 50, has now dipped to 46, sparking speculation about his long-term future in the format.
Initially, it was assumed that Kohli simply wanted to skip the upcoming England Test series, but insiders now suggest he may be considering full retirement from red-ball cricket.
The BCCI is planning a high-level meeting with Kohli before the Test squad is announced (tentatively May 23). A “highly influential figure” in Indian cricket — whose name is yet to be revealed — is expected to personally appeal to Kohli to delay his retirement.
A source stated:
“The board wants to understand the real reasons and offer flexibility if needed. His experience is invaluable, especially with a young leader like Shubman Gill likely to take charge.”
Despite the recent slump, Kohli is just 770 runs short of the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket — a milestone that only a handful of legends have achieved.
Matches: 123
Runs: 9230
Average: 46.13
Centuries: 28
Fifties: 29
Captaincy Record: 68 Tests (40 wins, 17 losses, 11 draws)
His leadership and aggression helped revive global interest in Test cricket, earning him praise from players and pundits worldwide.
India is set to face a challenging England Test series, and the BCCI believes Kohli’s presence in the dressing room could provide crucial support to a young captain and an evolving Test squad.
While Kohli’s record in England isn’t stellar — 1096 runs in 17 Tests at 33.21 — his experience against top-tier bowling attacks remains irreplaceable.
